In honor of all of the TV awards being voted on by fans on fan-sites, I have some of my own awards to give. Season 6’s Top 50 Awards:

6. Most unexpected moment: Brennan being pregnant/finale “cliffhanger” The Change in the Game

11. Most WTF moment: Booth asking Brennan to lie to Angela & Hodgins so he could go have sex with Hannah at the end of The Babe in the Bar.
12. Most depressing scene: Booth’s speech to Brennan in the bar after Hannah turned down his proposal at the end of The Daredevil in the Mold.
13. Most aggravating scene: Booth turning down Brennan in the SUV after saving her from being hit by the car… and saying that Hannah wasn’t a consolation prize at the end of The Doctor in the Photo.
14. Most skin crawling scene: post-coital scene with Booth and Hannah when Booth suggests Hannah move in with him in The Maggots in the Meathead. Did anyone else hate seeing Booth being so affectionate when he kissed Hannah on the calf when she was on the phone? Ugh! Wrong girl, Booth!
15. Most unbelievable moment: Parker bonding with Hannah and Booth being all gaga over Hannah because of it in The Twisted Bones in the Melted Truck.
16. Saddest moment: Vincent Nigel-Murray dieing in The Hole in the Heart.
17. Best Kiss: Booth and Brennan in the bowling alley in the finale, The Change in the Game.
18. Funniest moment: Premier episode when Clark talked about how B&B should have just ripped each other’s clothes off and done it in The Couple in the Cave. (Second place: Hodgins after Angela told him to leave and go see Cam after Brennan told her about getting in bed with Booth in The Hole in the Heart.)
19. Most fun non-B&B scene: Hodgins and Vincent acting out the arm wrestling match between man & dinosaur in the finale, The Change in the Game.
20. Most fun B&B scene: at the end of The Truth in the Myth when Booth was teasing Brennan (Second Place: Booth’s excitement over Brennan singing for the science dude’s show in The Body in the Bounty; Third place: Booth joining Brennan while jogging in The Killer in the Crosshairs.)
21. Best discovery: Booth goes commando when he doesn’t have any clean underwear in The Pinnochio in the Planter.

24. The cheesiest & most squee moment: B&B writing the date they think they will be ready for each other and then burning them at the end of The Blackout in the Blizzard.
25. Sweetest scene: Brennan accepting the shell from Max and Booth watching from the diner’s window at the end of The Bullet in the Brain. (Second Place: In the ending scene of The Blackout in the Blizzard when Booth didn’t stop Brennan from rambling about the odds of the stadium seats being the same ones Booth and his dad sat in.)
26. Best AW moment: Booth’s slowly developing smile after Brennan tells him she’s pregnant with his child at the end of the finale, The Change in the Game. (Second place: “Id like you to meet my son, Michael Staccato Vincent Hodgins,” in The Change in the Game.)
27. Best AHA moment: Booth realizing that he didn’t want his relationships to be just about luck at the end of The Signs in the Silence.
28. Best “Go Booth” moment (TIE): telling Brennan she was staying with him… and when he took lead of the team after Vincent died in The Hole in the Heart.
29. Most missed moment (TIE): 1. B&B passionate kiss; 2. B&B in bed after being intimate and 3. Brennan & Angela’s talk about B&B being “together” for the first time.
30. What was missing from season 6: B&B chemistry and eye-sex (Second place: Booth’s cocky belt buckle; Third Place: Booth in the lab/Brennan’s office; Fourth Place: A guy for Brennan to date while Booth was with Hannah.)

37. Most ridiculous change in character development: Fischer being optimistic.
38. Most annoying supporting character: Dr. Sweets
39. The worst thing about Hannah: how she changed Booth to being an unattractive creep towards Bones.
40. Best proof that Brennan knows Booth better than Hannah: The telephone in The Maggots in the Meathead and the Tommy guns in The Bikini in the Soup.
41. Most shallow Hannah moment: When she told Booth that she didn’t think that he would propose (expect more from her) so soon and she told him she didn’t think they were done yet in The Daredevil in the Mold.
42. “Was it really necessary?”: Booth’s proposal in The Daredevil in the Mold (Second Place: mentioning Hannah when she wasn’t in the episode)
43. Best acted Booth scene: Booth’s speech to Brennan in the bar after Hannah turned down his proposal at the end of The Daredevil in the Mold.

Most improved series: BONES - This one confused me since I considered season 6 to be awful and at one time thought the show would end because of it. Maybe people thought it was most improved since the end of season 6 saved the show from impending doom???

Hart's opinion on the (Anti)Social Media & on FANS

Hart Hanson, Bones' showrunner, is pictured on the far left.

Hart Hanson has a lot of reasons to be grateful for Bones fans. They helped turn the show he created into an indisputable, if unassuming, hit: it was FOX’s number one scripted series for the 2010/11 season, and its spinoff, The Finder has been picked up for next season. But there's also a downside to success, especially on social media sites where some of the most passionate fans can be less than sociable...

My thoughts: Hart Hanson and Stephen N. have hurt their reputations through Twitter and through interviews because of their negative views of fans. SN's comment about fans wanting porn almost makes me want to quit watching Bones. They are insulting even to respectful "super fans." What they don't understand is there are super fans that are not on the internet because they didn't grow up using it. Think about it. Even David's generation (mine) has been slow to use the internet.

After seven seasons and 129 episodes in the can, the FOX hit series Bones continues to have a large fan base. Many have different reasons why they love the show, including the chemistry between the cast members, and the fun stories that each episode features.

Recently, we spoke to Emily Deschanel who plays Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, and asked her why she thinks the show is successful after all these seasons.

WHY PEOPLE STILL DIG ‘BONES’

My opinion: I think the success of the show the first 5 seasons was because of the chemistry between the characters and the humor. It sadly was missing for most of season 6. I think many fans (on the internet or not) hung onto hope that it would return to being the show they fell in love with in the first place. (And yes, I blame the Hannah storyline. She caused the storyline to neccesitate the lack of chemistry of the team because the center didn’t hold. I liked the Cam and Sully storylines, but Hannah was a flop.)

I know a lot of fans want to dismiss the falling ratings to it being a holiday thing in December. If that makes people feel better, that's fine. But I disagree.

Since it was talked about in the summer, I was looking forward to The Doctor in the Photo. But I was one of many, many fans over at the Boneyard who had given up on the show and stopped watching. Some people quit before I did. Some people said they were quitting after TDitP. I skipped both episodes in December because I was getting depressed and that's not how I wanted to spend my weekend.

I came back in January and almost didn't return after the first episode, but the Bullet in the Brain preview brought me back and I'm glad I stuck with it after that. Since then, I've seen the ending of TDitP. I may watch all of it at a later date. The Twisted truck episode... It's unlikely I'll ever watch it.

ADAM: It's not just you. "There was a little something in that," executive producer Stephen Nathan says. "She's spent six years slowly becoming more and more in touch with a softer side of herself. And this was sort of one final emotional touch from Booth that says, 'You can enjoy this. You can accept this as the most wonderful thing in the world.'"

I usually don't like what SN has to say, but his answer was so... right. They've grown to trust each other, love each other and become better people together than they are apart. Booth has helped her tear down those walls. The last thing she wanted to learn was the happiness of, as Bones would say it, having progeny. She was insecure and he gave her assurance. As much as I wanted to see a kiss, I think the smiles and what they meant was the perfect ending to a tough season. It had me feeling so good that I decided to find some good photos that showed their journey. Please forgive me if a couple are out of order.

The Pregnancy News will Already be Out

The only thing remotely as exciting as Brennan and Booth’s shocking season finale baby news is the thought of the Jeffersonian team’s reaction to it. But executive producer Stephen Nathan told Give Me My Remote that, sadly, the news will have has already been broken come fall.

“When we come back, people will know [about the pregnancy],” reveals Nathan. But this fast-forward in time is for good reason: Emily’s very real, growing baby bump during the summer hiatus. Nathan explains, “Emily being pregnant, she’s probably going to be showing a little bit more than she is now. There’s a realistic time jump and we’re still working out how we’re going to deal with that.” Fair enough.

At least there’s one thing we can definitely look forward to (and breathe easy about) with Bones Baby #2. Nathan promises that when it comes to the baby’s health, “it is not our intent at this point to recreate the Hodgins and Angela pregnancy” — the source of much anxiety for the two new parents and fans. “That was their pregnancy; this is going to be Booth and Brennan’s pregnancy. Totally unique,” he promises. “And when baby is being born it is also not going to be done in the same way.”

We’re not sure what that last part means. Will Brennan give birth in the lab? With a midwife? Without Booth? We shudder to think. We also can’t wait!

I totally fell in love with this fanfiction story and the writer gave me permission to link it. You definitely don't want to miss it! It is very, very unique.

Writer's Summary:

I've wanted to write a fic about the fact that Brennan actually wrote an entire book about some fantasy life where she was together with Booth for a long, long time and the way 6.22 and 6.23 unfolded has given me that opportunity. I don't want this to stand as another fic speculating as to what happened in those (in)famous missing moments because there are so many wonderful interpretations already, so I've been deliberately vague with some of those details.

ADAM: Executive producer Stephen Nathan likes your conspiracy theory. "Let's keep that one alive until next season," he says with a laugh. "Let's let people get all upset." In truth, Nathan says the writers were more concerned with feelings. "Whether or not we see them jumping around in the sack did not seem as important as the emotional acceptance of who they were to each other," Nathan says. "Moving into Season 7, [the pregnancy] cements their relationship and forces them to accept the fact that they are a couple, they are in love and that they will be moving forward together."

My Positive POV: Moving from Season 6 to Season 7

Okay... I'm back with a more positive outlook. :)

Stephan Nathan isn't the best at interviews, but some of his answers in interviews following the finale seem to be helpful. After each section's interview answers, I'll give my point of view.

BOOTH & BRENNAN
Are they a couple?

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY:

I just spent five minutes yelling “WHAT?” at my TV — in a good way. I can’t believe Brennan is pregnant. Some fans are worried that because Angela used the word “dream” in conversation with Brennan, Brennan’s conversation with Booth was just a dream. But she really is pregnant, correct?
Absolutely. This is not a dream.

What was the time jump between Nigel-Murray’s death last week and this week when she told Booth that she was pregnant?
It’s probably at least a month.

Did they sleep together just that once, or have they been sleeping together since that night?
I think that’s up to every viewer. I have my little feeling about it, but I don’t want to impose my opinion on that on anyone.

After last week’s episode aired, some fans felt cheated that if there was a real love scene, we didn’t get to see it. Will we ever get to see that moment, or will we just move forward?
Well, we’ll now see them as a couple — whatever a couple means to Booth and Brennan. [Laughs] It will be that unique couple. It won’t be what you expect.




TVLINE

First, please assure me that this isn’t going to be some kind of bait and switch. Brennan is really carrying Booth’s child, right?
It was not a dream. There is no alternate reality. What you see is what you get. They are having a baby. She is pregnant with his child. She [slept with] him in the previous episode and this was the outcome.

So this isn’t just two co-workers having a baby together after a one-night stand. This is a full-fledged couple starting a family?
They are as much of a full-fledged couple as two unique and difficult people can be. Brennan is not a fan of marriage. Booth is somebody who’s always wanted to get married. These issues still remain. The tension that has existed in their relationship up to this point will continue. They’re now sharing something and they’re committed to each other in a way they always wanted and there’s no way to avoid that. They have to deal with the reality that they’ve gotten what they secretly wished for.

This is a very unconventional path to take. I mean, these two haven’t been on a real date together and now they’re having a baby.
The reality is, Booth has been with Brennan more than he ever was with [a real girlfriend like] Hannah. Which is always the case when people work together in a high-pressure job. [By making Brennan pregnant] we avoid all of the [trappings] that people commonly associate with the Moonlighting curse, which is, “Oh, now they have to date,” or “Oh, now they have to hug each other and kiss and share desserts.” They never have to share dessert. [Laughs]



My take on this...

Comfort Sex: I'm okay with it only because they have loved each other for so long (even if Brennan didn't realize it). I would like to believe it was more than sex. They made love. What is the evidence? At the end of Hole in the Hart (HitH), Brennan went to him and put her arm through his. Booth didn't smile right away. When he did smile, to me it looked like he realized that she wasn't going to panic or run. He knew that they were okay. He knew they were a couple.

The Change in the Game (TCitG) didn't show the affection I was expecting. However, they were very comfortable around each other. The way Booth looked at her when he told her she could be his girlfriend, to me, it looked as if that was a given because she already was his girlfriend. They didn't have to make that part up. I was surprised it was changed to engaged. With both of those situations, Brennan was not balking at the idea.

I think they probably continued progressing in the new level of their relationship between episodes. If they didn't, whatever the reason, I think they would have acted awkwardly around each other. Why did they walk so far apart from each other at the end of the finale? Well, I think that was Brennan's unspoken choice. Throughout the episode, she was testing Booth's reaction about babies and kids. She was nervous about how he would react. Of course, Booth wanted another child, but he was once again doing it without a marriage. The smile on his face once it sunk in was priceless. What shocked me was Brennan's smile. They are happy.

Are they a couple? In my opinion, yes. They are a couple.

What will happen in season 7?

Would this be happening now in the story if Emily Deschanel hadn’t become pregnant in real life?

Yes. This was something that we had been discussing even before Emily found out she was pregnant. It’s very difficult to find a way to deal with two characters who everybody knows should be together without embracing what everybody calls the Moonlighting curse. We had to find a way to keep the integrity of those characters intact, and yet move them along because you can only wait so long. So we wanted to avoid that part of the relationship where you first get together and the fresh glow of love, and you’re sharing dessert, and you’re overly polite. We didn’t want to do that. Booth and Brennan have disagreed about fundamentally everything — except each other — for six years. That will continue. Their characters will remain the same: Booth and Brennan will have completely different ways of dealing with the pregnancy, completely different ways of dealing with where their life goes from here. Booth is the marrying kind as we know, and Brennan is not. Where are they gonna live? How are they gonna raise the child? How are they gonna continue to catch murderers together when they have a baby hanging around? So all of these issues will be dealt with in the way that they’re always dealt with — from opposite sides. The ultimate pragmatist meets this romantic who has faith that everything will be worked out as long as you look at it the right way. These are issues that won’t die. We hopefully have found a way to continue what everyone loves about Bones while really kicking it up a notch and adding a whole new set of complications now that these two people actually find themselves together.

Do you anticipate a time jump when the show returns in the fall?
It’s not gonna be two weeks later. We’ll see them a little bit further along. Exactly how far along remains to be seen. We’re working that out now.

After last week’s episode aired, some fans felt cheated that if there was a real love scene, we didn’t get to see it. Will we ever get to see that moment, or will we just move forward?
Well, we’ll now see them as a couple — whatever a couple means to Booth and Brennan. [Laughs] It will be that unique couple. It won’t be what you expect.

What would you like to say to fans who are weary of the show bringing a baby into the Booth and Brennan dynamic?
It’s not like Alf has come into their lives, it’s something real. We want that to affect the show, but it’s not gonna be a show about having babies. It’s not Parenthood. I’m sure there are gonna be some viewers who are upset. “Oh, the baby’s gonna do this and do that.” A lot of viewers always make up their mind on how we’re gonna ruin the show before it happens. [Laughs] And hopefully we will disappoint those viewers. And the viewers who have faith that we’ll be able to take the show into new territory well, we hope we won’t disappoint them. We’re very, very excited about being able to do the show that we love doing, but do it with fresh eyes

What impact did Emily’s pregnancy have on this story? Would you have gone this route regardless?
Emily being pregnant certainly figured into it to a certain extent. But [series creator] Hart [Hanson] and I were leaning toward this independently of that. The biggest problem we faced going into Season 7 was how to get these two people together while keeping the integrity of Brennan and Booth’s characters in tact. By going this route, we didn’t have to have them go through the traditional love-dovey stage where everything was wonderful and they understood each other and they got past their differences. That’s never going to be the case. They now are together but are essentially the same exact characters. They’re going to disagree on everything they disagreed about before, including how to approach their lives together, religion, family and now how to approach having a child. So we lose nothing but gain a huge amount with the reality that they are now together sharing the biggest thing in their lives.

Will they move in together?

That will be addressed in Season 7. When we open in Season 7, it’s not Ozzie and Harriet. It’s not a perfect little domestic family situation. They haven’t figured out where they’re living, how they’re living and what their future is. They just know that they’re together.

How much time will have passed?
That’s something we’re still deciding. We will probably pick up a couple of months down the line.

My take on this...

B&B do everything backwards. So have a baby already? Why not? They've known each other for 6 years. They know each others pasts, faults, and beliefs. They know they will have to work to maintain their relationship. And most importantly, neither one of them wants to fail and lose the other.

I think the bickering and bantering will continue centered around their life-styles and raising a child together. I believe they will remain a couple and not just raise the child as friends and partners. I don't see either of them "running away." The baby bonds them. This is B&B. I know this kind of foundation doesn't work with a lot of people in the real world, but B&B are unique. They're the center and the center must hold.

Will we see more physical affection? I sure hope so. Watching old episodes from seasons 1-5 can be sad sometimes. They touched each other a lot. We haven't seen this in so long. I think we need it and deserve it. B&B need it and deserve it. I'm not asking for a sex scene, but I wouldn't complain if we saw something like in the coma dream. I don't mind if they keep what's theirs to themselves. I just want to see the chemistry return.
